Dr. Marquis Harper is a 2024 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. He earned both his Bachelor of Science (2017) and Master of Science (2020) degrees from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCATSU), where he focused his studies on farm animal medicine, including cattle, goats, sheep, and camelids.
During veterinary school, Dr. Harper tracked in farm animal medicine but discovered a growing passion for equine medicine during his third year. Following graduation, he completed a Large Animal Rotating Internship at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM), where he gained extensive hands-on experience with horses, ruminants (large and small), pigs and camelids— including the occasional camel. He spent much of his internship year in the Equine ICU, where he found his true calling working with horses and helping them through critical cases.
Dr. Harper shares his life with his husband, Kris, and their beloved fur family: a dog named Gemini, two cats named Bob and Bee, and a rabbit named Bean. He enjoys spending time outdoors and takes every opportunity to be outside—which is why the ambulatory life in equine practice feels like it chose him.
Dr. Harper is excited to be part of the Damascus Equine family and looks forward to making a positive impact on the equine community in the area.
